We're going to be sharing all of her details in the show notes because I know you are absolutely going to want to connect with her and all of her inspirational vibes that she shares. But so, so excited to kick this one off. Welcome to the podcast, Taylor. Hi, Mia. So lovely to be here.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you for having me.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my goodness, you are so welcome and thank you for being here. I feel like we are just on one of our chats that we have every fortnight that I look forward to so very much and hearing all the wonderful things that you've been up to. So no doubt today is going to absolutely inspire not just speeches, but so many incredible therapists in the space.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely. I hope so.

SPEAKER_02

All right. So we're gonna dive straight into it. Now, Taylor, let's start with your before. So, what did life and work look like before you started this journey to build your beautiful business, Bloom Together at Bloom Together Therapy? Check it out. It is incredible, guys. But tell us through like what the before was. What did life look like? What did work look like before you started this journey in your business?

SPEAKER_00

Great question, Mia. It's it's honestly a little bit hard to reflect on because although it has only been a few months, it does feel like a different world, a world away to how things are for me now. I was very blessed three years ago to move up to the beautiful Pilbara region where I where I live now. At that time, I was only working as a speechy part-time, and the bulk of my work was actually in health promotion, which I don't think that you and I have spoken about before. Um gave me so much flexibility and dare I say, freedom. Um, I was traveling all over Western Australia, so much flexibility in my day, um, and I was loving it. You know, I loved that job. Um, and unfortunately, moving up, I had to say goodbye to it, and I was really nervous to move into full-time speech work. Previously, I had associated that with burnout, um, and I'd felt this new kind of taste of freedom, and I was scared that I was going to lose that. Yeah. However, I was very blessed um to come into a beautiful, beautiful workplace, which I would love to shout out, Connect Pediatric Therapy Services. And I was loving life again. They helped me fall back in love with speech, fall back in love with the health world, and yeah, I felt like I was in love with speech again. Um, but as the story goes, and I'm sure it's very familiar for all of your listeners, a few months in, and I was feeling burnt out again. Not surprisingly. Um, I loved my team. I loved the work that I was doing. I was incredibly supported. I and I cannot stress enough that of all the places I've worked in health, you know, my previous employment was really supportive. But I just, you know, didn't feel like myself. I was exhausted, working nine to five on a nine-day fortnight, you know, full-time, traveling over 100 kilometers to work every day, managing a team, managing a clinical caseload. And it felt like my whole life was work. I wasn't myself again, you know, and I fell out of love with the work that I do all over again.

SPEAKER_02

And I think that speaks to like the space that we're in currently with healthcare workers, right? Like it is a really hard space. You can have the most supportive workplace, you can have all of the resilient skills. And thank you so much for sharing so gracefully because it's also there can be a sense of shame around that. Like, you know, I've got this, I've got this, and it's like, and I'm still finding this really tough. And I think that a lot of people listening are going to be able to relate to that so highly. And I know you and I've discussed your previous employer with such gold standards, like they sounded like such a beautiful company to work for. And I know that you know, leaving them can was a really tough decision, and I think that speaks a testament to like everybody's doing the best they can, like, whether it's your employer, often whether it's you as a practitioner, like the space is really tough at them at too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely. And you're right, I think it did bring a deep sense of shame that the problem was with me or I wasn't doing something because I had all of this amazing support where I was working fantastic, but I still, yeah, felt not great. I was exhausted, I was definitely burnt out. Um, but I'm very lucky that they were so supportive and brainstormed and workshopped with me, adjusting things in my day, things about my role. Um, and we tried a lot of things, and I remember sitting down with my director and my manager, and they just said to me, like, Taylor, we want you to be happy. We love you, we care about you, but we need you to tell us like what you need. And I could not, I couldn't tell them, I couldn't give them an answer. I didn't know what was missing or what I wanted.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, and like what a powerful conversation to sit in, and like, you know, I think that speaks like to how much we do work in a team in so many spaces in this area too. Like, it holds us all together, it is the clue. And I think I'm guessing that conversation maybe led to, but tell me about the hesitations you had, tell me about transitioning to a freedom-based business model and like what helped you make the leap, or what was that deciding factor for you?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely. Like it was such a fantastic question and got me reflecting and thinking, you know, well, if not this, what does my life look like? And I contemplated going onto the mine, which is hard to think of now. Um but you know me, I need to live a purpose-driven life that would not have left me feeling fulfilled. I thought about going back into the government, um, but I need flexibility that just wouldn't work for me. Um and so then I guess I just got to this point where I knew something had to change. And I'd always imagined or thought that I would try running my own business at some point. And one of my girlfriends said to me, you know, if not now, like when? Love that so much, right? Yeah, yeah. And I feel like that gave me permission to go, you know, what is the worst that I could happen. Um the the way my life is structured now, it's not working out for me. Um, and I really did feel like reflecting on the world of private practice and allied health practices, they're all kind of structured quite the same or very similar. I didn't feel like moving to a different practice would change anything that wasn't kind of gelling with me. And I needed to reflect on what is it about work that aligns with me and finding that or creating that if that's not possible. Which I think is something you've taught me a lot is that freedom does not look the same for everybody, and it's so valuable to look inwards on well, what does that look like for you?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Oh, Taylor, that's so special. Like, I know we've had that conversation so many times, and I know we've probably I feel like we even had this conversation this week as well. Like, this person's version of freedom is different to this person's version, and sometimes we might think that there is like a version of freedom we should be striving for, but it's like if we future map what you're doing now in 20 years' time, is that the type of freedom that you want to be creating for yourself? It's pretty can be a bit scary too, right? Like it can actually be quite terrifying to think of when you're in the thick of it, too, I think as well.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, absolutely. And you know, is this the right time was definitely going through my head. And I know that's something that you hear a lot in a conversation that we had before I'd even jumped in. Yeah, yeah. Um, and yeah, you know, exactly. If not now, when? There's never gonna be a perfect time. There's never gonna be a time that you feel a hundred percent ready. It's just about taking that leap.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think you've summed that up so beautifully. And I think it also comes in like at every stage of our business too, right? The start, the middle, we're doing something new, we don't know if we're ready. And it is, we just keep like growing and transforming as much as our business does along the way, too. It's pretty special.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, definitely. I think I just had it in my mind that people that were doing this felt a certain way. You know, they felt ready. Um, and because I didn't feel like that, I thought that wasn't an option for me, or I wasn't ready for that. Um, so learning that everybody just felt the same way I did definitely helped me to jump in.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Oh, thank you for sharing so deeply. Like that is it's so special and so supportive to hear as well, like for anybody in that position as well. And coming back to Bloom Together, you built your beautiful business in let's just I'm actually gonna make you say this. How many months? How many months did we build Bloom Together in? Like, when was it up and running? I don't even think it was two.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, no, a very short period of time, which feels wild to even reflect on, you know, hearing us say, yeah, two months, three months is yep, insane.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like it was six weeks. Like, I feel like it was six weeks. Like, and I'm I'm I'm owning that because I'm like, you nailed that, like from delivery, like from planning, from pre-launch to through to the launch, through to delivery, like you built this incredible business in under two months. Like it is incredible. And can you walk us through some of those first steps and what that journey looked like in those early couple of weeks, months?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, look, pulling the trigger and jumping into the Freedom Therapist Club was a very pivotal, pivotal moment for me. Um, I think it gave me that accountability, that push, and that support that I needed. That well and truly was, yeah, the start line, the go button.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh. It was, I remember our early conversations and I I still remember our first contact call and like you talking about the business that you wanted to create. And then we sat there two months later, right? And we were like, you've done it. Like you did this, you created this, like you, you should just be so proud of yourself, Taylor. Like, I'm so proud of you. Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you so much. I definitely couldn't have couldn't have done it on my own. Or I mean, if I did, it would not have been so easy, so flowy. Um, and just those small, actionable steps. I think once the ball is rolling and just ticking off those little things, you know, getting your ABM, setting up your business bank account, the boring, the boring back end stuff, choosing a name. Yeah. Um and you just get so much joy ticking those little steps off your to-do list that you blink and you have a business.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you do, and it's thriving. Oh my gosh, I love that so much. What surprised you most about how quickly your business expanded?

SPEAKER_00

I think the fact that I was so busy, you know, I was coming home from work, I was working full-time and still setting up my business. So working after I'd done a full nine hours at work, come home, work on the business, work on the weekends. But it wasn't hard. I was busy, but not hard. It was a lot more easeful and flowy than I had expected. And I I definitely associate that shock with the fact that I, it was very ingrained in me that success was meant to feel hard. It was a blog. And so I almost felt like a bit of a change that I'd, you know, created this business, but had not gone through the hard yards. And it's just that shift out of that old narrative into this new way of working that we don't need to be blogging ourselves to be successful. It is just not, it's old news.

SPEAKER_02

It's such old news. Oh my God, I love that perspective, and I love that you are able to share that because you were, you were in such a busy season, and I still remember a conversation we had, and I'm gonna share it because I was like, we were sitting there talking, and you were like, Me, I'm doing more than like more than I've been doing in a long time, but I I don't feel exhausted, like I feel fulfilled, and I just think that was like so special to come back to. Like you were just you were just in your flow and you were working in something that was lighting you up, you were loving what you were doing, and you'd like created this schedule that was also working for you at the same time. Like you've done all the little things to like reset and make sure. And I think it's so beautiful because a lot of the time we don't want to, you know, start our business, grow our business, scale our business because we do think that it is going to need to cost us so much time, so much money, so many resources that we already don't have. And it is there's that old hustle culture telling us, you know, you have to be you have to be overworked and burnt out to be successful and be doing it right. And it's not true.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely so not true. Definitely something I thought, but now that I have lived it, I know that it does not have to look like that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I love that so much. I think that is so special. And it's gonna lead really beautifully into our next question. Were there specific practices or mindsets that helped you stay grounded during this time, Taylor?

SPEAKER_00

Really early on in our Freedom Therapist Club, Mia, you got us to reflect on our why. Like I think this could have even been week one or pre-week one. It was one of the first activities that we did together. And that has been instrumental in keeping me grounded on those busy days when I feel a bit shaken, a little bit rattled, is just reflecting on why I'm doing this and having that in a place that I can read easily, come back to again and again and add to as that develops and changes. But definitely feeling strong in my why and revisiting that has been so powerful. So has your knowledge that you've imparted on me about working in seasons. I love that term. These seasons that we work in, sometimes our seasons are busy and sometimes they're a little bit quieter. So at the start, I was obviously in a very busy season, but giving it that language, you know, the semantics of that word, helped me know that seasons end and we move into different seasons. And that absolutely helped me get through the busier days because I knew that a quieter, more peaceful season was coming.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I love that. I think it's really beautiful to normalise working in this way. Like nobody is meant to run on 100% all the time. And speaking to that, Taylor, I know you have a beautiful season of rest coming up, which I think you are so excited for, and such a testament to you for creating your business in such an intentional way, like working in line in a way that lets you rest and give you ease as well as letting you like sprint when you need to, because sometimes we think having a freedom-based business means we're not going to be working in there or we're not working, or we're like, you know, on the sidelines. But a lot of us actually really love our job, like we love what we do and it lights us up. So we don't want to be on the sidelines. We want to have a beautiful mix that when we're in there, we feel really excited, we feel really fulfilled, but then we get enough time to rest and recharge as well.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, absolutely. And I think just having those seasons more on your terms or guided by you is so powerful too.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I love that so much. Now coming into can you share an example of a moment when you knew when you knew your business was creating more freedom?

SPEAKER_00

There's so many. Um it's from the small things. Like I remember maybe my second week running my business. I went and did my food shop on a Tuesday. So prior to this, you know, work full time girly, my food shop had to happen on the weekend. And I hate doing the food shop. It's sensory overload for me. There's too many people. It's too loud. I hate it. And it was genuine bliss walking through those aisles with I think maybe one other person in the shops.

SPEAKER_02

Joy. I love this so much. I love this. From a remote town Woolies. Like if you go at like 11 to 2 on a Saturday or Sunday or after work, like you're in lines for hours. Because it's like it's insane. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Horrible. Like that's free. You know, it's these little things that you don't think about beforehand, but have made such a difference. And then it's the bigger things. Um, you know, maybe a month into the business, my partner and his family invited me to come out on this holiday. And, you know, we there's these beautiful islands off the coast of where I am, and his family have a shack that we can stay at um out on these islands, and it's just lush. But usually I would be at work, I wouldn't be able to come, or I would be too fatigued from work to go and have a good time. And I was able to go all together with his family, energized, excited about going, didn't have to cancel any appointments, didn't have to reschedule. There was no, you know, hiccups, bumps in the road with work. And that just felt like true freedom to me, still being able to support my beautiful families while also supporting myself, too.

SPEAKER_02

That is so incredibly special. Like, I think that that's part of it. Like, it's it's not just waiting for the big holidays, it's like creating that life that you want now, and that you know, I know we've talked a lot about your schedule to make it work for you and for your needs, and being able to actually put that into perspective and have that change within such a short amount of time is like such an up level of boundaries, of strengths, and of resilience, of just like really owning this is what freedom looks like and this is what it gets to be like now, right? Like this gets to be your reality now. It's so cool.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, and you're right, you know, these are just an every other kind of weekend thing that we can go away together. And you definitely empowered me to set a schedule that worked for me and my life because I got a lot of oh, that's not gonna work from other people. And I thought, well, that you know, that's your opinion. I'm gonna give it a go. And it works for me, it works for the people that I support. I think it's just yeah, feeling empowered that you can set up your day in a way that works for you. Your day doesn't have to look like everyone else's Monday to Friday, nine to five.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, I love that so much. And the right people will be so happy with that model as well. Like, I think that's huge there too. This is gonna lead into the next question so beautifully. A lot of therapists worry about losing quality or getting lots of no's when they create a service that is different. And I know this one has popped up for us too. Like, what has come up here? And how did you ensure your clients still receive top-tier support as you expanded and grew?

SPEAKER_00

This does come up a lot for me. Um, that imposter syndrome runs rampant. Think especially when you choose to do something different. Different is scary. Um, breaking the mold is hard. I think you know, sometimes it feels wrong because you're not used to doing it and other people aren't used to seeing it. But I just remind myself that I went to university, I'm experienced. What I do is backed by evidence, it's got theoretical underpinnings, and you know, that's just what I come back to is that just because something's different doesn't mean it's bad, it doesn't mean it's wrong. If what you are doing is grounded in something and grounded, you know, in evidence.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I know, like I know we've had so many conversations, Taylor. You are one of those clients who comes to me all the time going, I've got this idea, but I want to make it better for my clients, I want to make it better for the families that I work with, and how do I do that? And those sort of conversations like make me so excited to work with people and humans like you, because we can get really caught up in like what our therapy practice should look like, you know. There there wasn't a lot outside of the box, like when we were going through uni and all these things, and you get to really actually choose how you want to create your service and you get to include all of those little add-ons that you want to. So you're like, Oh, I actually want more time with the parents to be able to do this, I want more wraparound support for the family. I know that this way works, and I've tried this already in practice, and that's how I want to support people. And I think that that is such a beautiful thing because you continue to question how can I make this better at every step of the way?

SPEAKER_00

Definitely, and I think just something you've taught me is staying really curious to the no's when people have said no, instead of yeah, getting upset or feeling offended. I'm really curious about why it is a no, and a lot of the time it's helped me refine my messaging or know that I need to work more on delivering um information into the community. So I think that's been a really powerful shift around, yeah, staying curious about a no.

SPEAKER_02

My God, I love it. We love a no. We love it because it's an opportunity to create more learning, to create more connection and to go deeper. You know, it's not about we talk a lot in the club about like not having manipulative or pushy sales or like peppering people, but it's about having deep conversations and you know, it's actually even if they don't turn out to be a client or a referral, like what they have taught us about our service can help us to grow. And looking at it from that perspective is so important and is gonna make you such an incredible person in this space, too, which you already are. I know it.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. I think you know, too, keeping that quality as I've expanded. What I've come back to is systems. I know you love the system, you've definitely covered your um wealth of wisdom about systems onto the things, but right, like having foundational systems, all of these systems that you helped me put in place before I even opened my doors have meant that they have stayed consistent as I've grown. And how much easier does that then get to be?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it does. And it's like it when we talk about like systems and automations, it can feel so big to implement, but it isn't. It's like that simple little process of like going, what am I doing all the time over and over again? And when we come together and talk about these things, you know, there's an automation we could add in, or there's a way we can like talk about that in a different way and like really continue to refine that. So I love that it's feeling really supportive because I think that's a big thing, like it's about working smarter, not harder, and you're allowed to work less and learn more as a therapist, too. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Uh, has there been any moments in your business that has surprised you or some unexpected goodness that has come through as well?

SPEAKER_00

Probably the biggest unexpected goodness has been the positive impact on my relationship with my partner. A few weeks into starting my business, he said to me, You know, wow, you just seem lighter. I feel so much more connected to you at the moment. And we reflected together, what's different? Literally, just my work and the work that I'm doing. And, you know, I finished work and now he gets the best of me instead of the rest of me that he was getting before, um, which is just so special and so amazing and definitely not something that I expected.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, I've actually like got grease guns and tears. That's like so special. That is so special, Tay. Like it just shows that our work is a huge part of who we are, and for somebody that cares about us so much to notice that, like, yeah, I know like that's massive, and it's just the feeling is lighter and like more lit up as well. Like, incredible. Thank you for sharing that. That's so special. I'm like very emotional now. All right, let's continue on. Um, yeah. What would you say to a therapist who feels like they're in the sticky burnout, feeling a bit unsure, a bit uncertain to start this kind of journey? Like, you know, someone who is maybe where you're at, or who's in the thick of it and just like looking for a different way.

SPEAKER_00

I would say that work is not meant to feel that hard. You know, ongoing burnout is so common, but it's not normal. Yeah. And we don't, you don't have to feel like that. I would say be really bold, be courageous, and love yourself enough to explore something different or offer something different for yourself in your life because you are worth it and it definitely is available to you.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, that is beautiful. Let's put that in our freedom campus chat today. Thank you very much. That is beautiful. Oh, and what has been the biggest reward since making this shift to your scalable free and best practice?

SPEAKER_00

It's nothing specific that I can put my finger on, but this broad happiness and just general well-being and zest for life that I now have. You know, I feel like a different person in just the best way possible.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, that's that's beautiful. It's a feeling, right? Like it's like we've come to that point now where we know what it feels like, and you can't go back once you felt it. Like that's the shift, and it's it's we it's something that we long for for so long, and something that we do sometimes think isn't available to us, and then when we get it, it's almost like you have those pinchful moments over and over again. I know, like I did definitely.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, and honestly, it was something that I was really scared of in making this leap is that I would make all these changes and put in this work, and I wouldn't have this feeling, so it has just been so reaffirming through all of the busy days and all of these big decisions, and it has been the right path for me.

SPEAKER_02

Oh we are at our last question, Taylor. You beautiful, beautiful human. Finally, if you could give one piece of advice to women or therapists looking to build a purpose-driven freedom-based business in life, what would it be?

SPEAKER_00

I would say take the leap, but don't do it on your own. So you could create something so amazing, but it could be really hard, really lonely, and such a slog. Or you could create something amazing and be part of a beautiful community and feel supported and it be so easy and flowy. I think that there's this notion associated with doing it on your own, and I want to put that in the bin with the success is hard work, you know, community and support around you is in. And absolutely, you know, I cannot thank you enough, Mia, for how supportive you've been in this journey. It is absolutely what I put the ease and my enjoyment of this whole process down to. So, yes, take that leap, but don't do it alone. Do it with someone amazing like yourself and the Freedom Therapist Club.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, I'm like messed now. So thank you for that. This podcast always makes everyone cry, and I'm the one crying today. All the feels all the feels, Taylor. Like it has been just like such a beautiful journey. Like to watch you grow from I have this idea, this is what I want to do, I want it to be an amazing service, but I want it to love me too, and to watch you just implement these steps and continue to come back to like lean on your support, ask all those questions, and like you just stayed so curious throughout everything. And you know, there was that unlearning and that learning element along the way, and it is about like I think when we grow our business, like we also grow ourselves in such a new way as well. And you just keep babes, you just keep like hitting next level. I'm like, oh, she's hit her. Oh nope, here we go again. It's coming again, and I just think like you are going to go on and do the most incredible things. And I I love working with you, I have loved working with you. I adore this process, and it's exactly why I love doing this work because watching people be able to achieve their dreams and do it on their terms and like come out of it feeling a different way. There's just nothing better. So true. Yeah. Oh, thank you for your time today, beautiful human. I feel like everyone is going to get so much from this chat, like, so so much, and you are going to inspire so many people, whether they are starting a business, whether they are expanding a business, like all of the things that you've spoken to today are things that you know we need to be normalizing, we need to be talking about now.

SPEAKER_01

Bye. Thank you so much for tuning into today's episode and joining me as we celebrate Taylor's incredible journey. Her story is a testament as to what can happen when you say yes to the life and the practice that you truly want. Taylor took bold steps, trusted the process and herself, and the results were incredible. A freedom-based business that brings her the purpose, income, time, location, and fulfillment that she's always wanted. So if you're listening to this wondering if 2025 is your year to finally do the thing to grow, scale, or expand your therapy business in a way that is so aligned with your vision, the Freedom Therapist Club is so here for you. We are currently in our final week of enrolments, and I would love to make it as easeful as possible for you to join us for the next six months. Inside the club, you'll find a comprehensive approach to building a practice that works for you and not the other way around. We cover everything from business and brand strategy to marketing to content, pricing, revenue planning, forecasting, and so much more. We have created a safe space to let go of the old narratives about what therapists can earn, and we are leaning into creating profitable and consistent businesses that feel so intentional and regulating. But what makes the Freedom Therapist Club truly unique is that it's not just about building a profitable business, it's about nurturing you as well. Alongside practical systems, we integrate mindset, energy, nervous system regulation, meditations, and affirmations so you can grow and expand with ease and avoid burnout. We create space so that you can feel like you again and you can start to lean into the work that you know you love in a way that truly lights you up again with so much love. The Freedom Therapist Club is about doing less, but doing it right. And it's about finally letting go of what doesn't feel aligned and building a business that actually feels good to be in and that doesn't feel like it's controlling you. The Freedom Therapist Club is about finding the love in your work again, feeling calm, focused, and supported because true success means honoring yourself every step of the way, too. This program isn't about hustling harder, working more hours, or getting busier. It is about simplifying at the core. It is reclaiming space and time in your everyday. It is feeling so regulated in your business, bringing in an aligned income and feeling genuinely excited in your work again. So if you know that you want to walk into the business that you love in 2025, head over to www.the Freedom Therapistclub.com.au forward slash club to explore how we can support you for the next six months. We are in our final week of enrolment and we have the most incredible therapists in there already. We kick off at the end of November for our six-month journey together with a two-week break over Christmas, and then those two weeks are added on as extra time at the end of your container, giving you the full six months of support and that rest that you need too. And therapist, it's your turn. It's time to put yourself first, too. Because success shouldn't have to come at the cost of our freedom. I'll see you in there.
